Lough Mask is rated one of the World’s top fishing destinations and the World Fly Fishing Championships are held on this lake every year. Another annual event to include is the Mayfly season for fly fishing. This region of Mayo has been christened the Lake District of Ireland, down South you have Lough Corrib and if you go north you have River Moy and Lough Conn for Salmon fishing. Cookery Workshop with In-house Chef

Our resident chef provides cookery classes for small groups. This is a very relaxed and interactive workshop, recipe notes are provided and afterwards you can enjoy the feast with a glass of wine if desired. It also involves collecting the food from the garden or in the wild country side by a nature walk.

Cyclying, Walking & Hiking

The Western Greenway is a short drive from us and offers 42km road free trail perfect for cycling, walking, or running. There are many hiking and hill-walking areas that your host will suggest to you that are off the beaten track. At Croagh Patrick or Nephin Mountain you have two great mountains to climb.

There are several great Golf courses choose from including Ballinrobe Club House, Westport, Carne or Enniscrone where you can finish your day by taking a Seaweed Bath in a Victorian Syle bath house. Green Fees are very reasonable and we have secured discount rates for our guests.

Surfing, Sailing, Kayaking

All these watersports are accessible either on Lough Mask or Lough Carra on the doorstep of Keel Lodge or a short drive away you have great surfing beaches. There are great swimming spots including Lough Mask and some of the best Blue Flag Beaches in Ireland including Old Head.

Horseriding, Clay pigeon shooting, Falconry and Archery

All these sports can be organised on Ashford Castle grounds, or if you wish to have a FAMILY DAY out Westport House includes The Pirate Adventure Park, for run rides and theme park.
